Privacy Policy
639 Connect is the mobile app for members of IAM Local 639. This policy explains what the app collects, why it collects it, and who else can see it.
Last updated October 2026 · Applies to 639 Connect version 1.0.2
What we collect
Your account
When the Local creates your account and you first sign in, the app holds your name, your email address, your phone number, and a password that is stored only in hashed form — nobody at the Local can read it back. You may add a profile photo, which is uploaded to our file storage and is visible to the Local’s administrators.
Your device
So the app can send you notifications, it registers a push token issued by Google Firebase Cloud Messaging. It also stores your notification preferences — whether you have muted notifications entirely, and whether you want meeting and vote reminders.
What you do in the app
The app records which notifications you have opened, and it records your ballots. Votes are not anonymous. A ballot is stored against your member record, so the Local can see that you voted and what you chose. This is what prevents anyone voting twice. If you would prefer a secret ballot for a particular question, raise it with the Local — the app is not the right tool for it.
On your phone
Contracts you download are saved to your own device’s storage. They stay there until you delete them, and the Local has no access to your device.
Permissions the app asks for
- Notifications — so the hall can reach you when something is posted. You can turn this off at any time in Settings, or in your phone’s own settings.
- Photo library — asked for only when you save a contract PDF or choose a profile photo. The app does not browse or read your library otherwise.
Who else sees your information
Your information is held by IAM Local 639 and is used to run union business. It is not sold, and it is not shared for advertising. Three services process data on the Local’s behalf:
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivers push notifications to your device.
- Amazon Web Services (S3) — stores uploaded files such as profile photos and contract documents.
- The Local’s own server — holds member records, meetings, votes and contracts.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect the safety of members.
How long it is kept
Your account and its records are kept for as long as you are a member and the Local needs them for union business. Vote records are kept as part of the Local’s record of that ballot.
Your choices
- Turn off notifications — in Settings, either entirely or just meeting and vote reminders.
- Change your details — update your name or photo in Settings, or write to the Local.
- See what is held about you — write to iamunionapp@gmail.com.
- Delete your account — see Delete your account.
Children
639 Connect is for members of IAM Local 639. It is not intended for children, and accounts are issued by the Local rather than signed up for.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that affects you, the Local will post a notice in the app. The date at the top of this page always shows when it was last revised.
